How does humic acid improve the soil?

As we know, many farmers rely on chemical fertilizers for a long time, thus the soil problems are serious. The long-term application of a large amount of chemical fertilizers results in soil compaction, deterioration of soil quality, reduction of organic matter content, microbial activity, and humic acid content in the soil, resulting in a reduction in the utilization rate of chemical fertilizers.
But as the saying goes, "nutriting the tree need to nutrite the root firstly, good root need to nutrite the soil firstly, good soil relys on fertilizer". Then what type fertilizer can be used to get the good soil?
Current scientific research shows that soil fertility depends to a large extent on the content of humic acid in the soil. A series of properties of humic acid like cation exchange capacity, oxygen content and water retaining are the main reasons why humic acid increases soil fertility and promotes plant growth. The most important thing is that humic acid can be combined with metal cations, oxygen, and hydroxide compounds, and then slowly released for crop utilization. It is precisely because of these properties that humic acid can play physical, chemical, and ecological functions in soil improvement.
Firstly, humic acid can improve the physical structure of the soil. Humic acid can promote the formation of aggregates, enhance the ability of soil to retain water and fertilizer. For relatively hard soil such as saline-alkali land, it can improve soil ventilation and permeability, so as to change the physical and chemical properties of soil alkalinity, soil particle dispersion and poor soil structure, to improve farming conditions. Humic acid also has a very good improvement effect on white mud soil and red loam soil. Humic acid can hold water on the soil surface by binding the combination, preventing soil cracking and soil erosion. Further soft soil increases soil permeability, improves soil utilization, increases soil drought resistance, darkens soil color, and is more conducive to absorbing sunlight.
Secondly, humic acid has the following functions in improving soil chemical properties. It can neutralize the acidity and alkalinity of the soil and adjust the pH value; it can chelate metal cations to facilitate the absorption and utilization of the roots; keep water in the roots of the crops, and can dissolve inorganic fertilizers to reduce their loss; reduce phosphorus and calcium, iron, magnesium, Aluminium reactions, or converting them from inactive states to forms that can be absorbed and utilized by plants; can reduce toxins in the soil.
So adhering to the use of humic acid series products as base fertilizer can help improve soil, increase organic matter, adjust soil pH, and provide good growing conditions for crops.
