The water-soluble fertilizer humic acid benefit of turfgrass culture

October 09, 2020

The chelating action of water-soluble fertilizer humic acid is sometimes used to produce chelated iron products. Without the addition of a nutrient such as iron,  humic acid has the ability to solubilize micronutrients already in the soil.
Two properties of humic acid that may have some benefit in turfgrass culture are its cation exchange capacity to form chelates with the metallic micronutrients, iron, copper, zinc and manganese. The cation exchange capacity (CEC) of commercially produced humic acid is in the range of 500 to 600 milliequivalents (me) per 100 grams. This is about five times greater than the CEC of good quality peat moss and twice as high as the CEC of soil humus.
What is the main function of water-soluble fertilizer containing humic acid?
1. Activation function: Peat ash leonardite humic acid potassium salt contained in humic acid-containing water-soluble fertilizer has multiple unsaturated functional groups, which makes the water-soluble fertilizer naturally decompose quickly without accumulation and side effects, promotes metabolism, accelerates cell division, and strengthens physiological and biochemical activities.
2. Nutritional function: water-soluble fertilizer containing humic acid contains active nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium compound nutrition, contains boron, zinc, copper, manganese, magnesium, selenium and other minor nutrients and macro and trace elements, with reasonable nutritional balance and synergistic nutrition effect.
3. Regulation function: The humic acid-containing water-soluble fertilizer uses the culturing function of yellow humic acid for biological bacteria to automatically adjust the growth mechanism of biological bacteria, so that the biological bacteria are in a proper adjustment mode during the process of dissolving phosphorus, potassium, and nitrogen. Biochemical reaction has good conditions
4. Osmotic function: The water-soluble fertilizer containing humic acid contains a natural form of active agent, which can evenly disperse and spread the spray liquid on the leaf stems of the plant, reduce the surface tension of the spray solution, increase the contact area with the leaves, and make the fertilizer The liquid spreads on the leaf surface to form a uniform and stable liquid film, which enhances the adhesion and permeability of the fertilizer liquid on the leaf surface, helps the leaves to absorb, and significantly increases and prolongs the wetting time of the fertilizer liquid on most leaf surfaces. When this product is used for irrigating, potassium humic acid can enhance the adhesion and penetration capacity of the fertilizer solution on the plant roots, help absorption, can effectively prevent the occurrence of fertilizer damage, and increase the effective nutrient absorption efficiency of the fertilizer by more than 20%.
